Linking Dartmoor and Exmoor, the only 2 National Parks in Southern England, the Two Moors Way, the oldest regional footpath in Devon, is an enjoyable and rewarding challenge to any walker.
....."And the scenery from start to finish was fantastic and contrasting.".....
Walkers enjoy the contrast of the sweeping wilderness of southern Dartmoor, the lush green countryside of Mid Devon and the descent from the lonely moorland of Exmoor to the north coast at Lynmouth.
Wild and isolated Dartmoor has Rocky Tors, standing stones, abandoned tin mines and both Neolithic and Prehistoric sites, whilst the dramatic Lorna Doone country of Exmoor has high rolling moorland, ancient woodlands, rivers and streams, all surrounded by many panoramic views.
Often the only other life to be seen each day is wild ponies, sheep, buzzards and curlews to name but a few.
As not all the route is signed, walking on the moors does require an element of compass and map reading skills but the seclusion and quietude experienced will be just reward.
The Two Moors Way walk is mainly easy going although there are more challenging stretches, as well as unsigned routes on open moorland where navigation skills are needed, though the rest of the route is well-signed.

Recommended dates to walk this route
We would advise this walk not be taken in the winter months only due to the shorter daylight hours in that period.
This walk is not as clearly marked as those on the Coast Path, so we would recommend this be undertaken by walkers with some map reading experience.
The Two Moors Way links remote Exmoor and iconic Dartmoor. As not all the route is signed, walking on the moors does require an element of compass and map reading skills but the seclusion and quietude experienced will be just reward.

This Two Moors Way itinerary, with a daily average of 12 miles (19km) would certainly suit walkers wishing an ‘away from it all’ journey through a remote, challenging and stunning part of ‘old’ England.
